The new age of online dating:Does it really work?

I used to be very skeptical about online dating. I realized something in recent years, I am a busy working professional, as many of us are, and I don't have time to go out and meet people. I barely have that much free time.

The most interesting thing about online dating that I like is the fact that at any moment you can stop talking to the person, if you are not getting the vibe you would like. And some sites are even so advanced as to match your personalities, so they know who to put you with.

I've had good and bad encounters with online dating, so I have decided to write some pros and cons, and some advice for anyone thinking about doing it.

PROS

1. Because there are profiles you can go thru, you have the control on who you want to deal with. Usually the profiles describe the person and it helps give you an idea if you could be compatiable.
2. If you start communicating with someone, and you don't like them you can stop talking to them, without ever physically meeting them.
3. It seems that you can meet people that you would never meet otherwise. It's an eye opening experience.

CONS

1. Sometimes people lie about how they look, so they send you misleading pictures.
2. Sometimes people aren't completely honest with who they are, they might be married, or have other things going on that they withhold.
3. Some people get online because they are insecure in themselves, and they can't meet people otherwise, which causes problems in the long run.

ADVICE:

Write down questions:

Write a list of questions that are important to you. If your looking for a long term partner, ask key questions, about faith, children, ect.

Be safe

When you do finally meet the person, man or woman, it's always good to be safe. Tell someone where you will be meeting the person, meet in a public place, and have their full name and as much information on them as possible. Give that information to your best friend , or family member. Just to be safe.

Be honest

Even if you get along great on the phone, if you don't click when you actually meet, don't drag something out that you don't want to get into. It only causes problems in the long run.

When looking for the perfect site make sure you do your research. Especially if you pay for a membership. Make sure the site is credible.

Be wary of giving out too much information.

On a final note, just have fun, you never know who you will meet. We are in a new age, my teacher just commented the other day, saying one day he would be replaced by a computer. The class chuckled, but I'm sure he's right. We are in a computer age, everything is getting faster and smaller. So when you think about finding love, why is it so insane to think that you might actually meet the love of your life online?
