Freedom of Speech... Unlimited?
69Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Can you believe seven years after the bill of rights was passed John Adams passed the Sedition Act, Criminalizing certain speech?
Freedom of Speech, is it unlimited? In my opinion no it's not. Granted we have way more freedom here in America than other countries to speak what we feel but there are consequences. In a perfect world we would be able to say how we felt no matter what it was, weather it be politically correct or not. But we don't live in a perfect world.
Our conversations are listened to, we are flagged if we are considered high risk, saying some of the key words they have on their lists. Why can't I freely speak my mind without wondering if someone will come after me? I must admit we are able to speak our minds up to a certain point, but where is that line crossed? And why is there a line if we supposedly have freedom of speech?
It's been known in history that people were killed for speaking their minds, especially against the government, or their country, or religion, etc.
There have been prominent leaders in our history that speak their minds and they end up assassinated. Why? Are people that afraid of truth? or even if they were not telling truth, isn't their right to speak what they feel? I don't think anybody has the right to regulate what we say.
On-line, people have blogs and websites, they write what they feel. But if it's too out of bounds, you can rest assured it will eventually be deleted. Because of all the different regulations we have.
It seems that when people want to speak their mind and it doesn't go with what everyone else is saying , then you are considered some type of radical. Why even say that we have freedom of speech? Why not say, "you can say what you want, but if it's not what we want you to say, there will be consequences, but oh, by all means speak freely".
Everyday we evolve, I hope that as we grow as a country we will all be able to wave our freedom of speech flag freely, and speak what we feel.

Miracle 7, I really praise you for writing such a sensible hub. Gr8 dear.
i love lines, crossing them, drawing them, and, in some cases, ignoring them altogether!
Hi Miracle7. My take is slightly different from yours. I support freedom of speech but as custom and practice, not as a right. Enjoyed the read, thanks!
I live in America and agree that freedom of speech comes with limits here--it is not complete freedom of speech. It seems like in the past 25 years freedom of speech has become even more limited. I appreciate the thought-provoking hub. Thanks
